Artist - Alestorm
Alestorm As you probably guessed from my last review I like metal...well most metal. I still haven't been sold on black and death metal and as far as I'm concerned Progressive is terrible seeing as I shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes to hear lyrics...(damn Dreamtheatre) but one of the genres I do like happens to be Pirate metal and yeah there are a few good bands like Swashbuckle or even Anvil is considered Canadian Pirate metal but the best band of the genre is Alestorm. Later this year they'll be releasing Back Through Time. I'm really excited seeing as one I like them and two they'll be playing it when they come to Montreal! (I'm Canadian! Aha!). They haven't released much in terms of songs (I personally want to hear the Sunk'n Norwegian and write a review abot how I like Vikings better but alas Alestorm has not graced me with this gift but the review WILL COME!!!) Now they've released one of their songs off the album and it' called Shipwrecked. Its about a man shipwrecked on a island...pretty simple, at least it's not about where to sit in a car. Now there's not much to say about this song. It's the average Alestorm song; guitar solos, good choruses and pirate themed lyrics but one thing sets it apart from the other ones. It's really, really, really, really, really, really, really (insert "really" here) catchy. I mean it just sticks with you. Yeah, other Alestorm songs are good and I really like them but I dare you to listen to Shipwrecked just once. I heard it on Saturday and now I know every word and have been singing it in my head all day...I had to explain what the banjaxed means and why I was singing it melodically with stuff that wouldn't make sense to someone who wasn't inside my brain. Because I don't want to be the only one with it in my head you guys should check it out. I don't want to impose but I COMMAND YOU! Now that that's over with...ahem...it's one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. It's on youtube and their website, check it out...now to wait here until June so I can point out why Viking will always be better than pirates. |
