Artist - Sabaton
Sabaton!!! I've recently had the pleasure of going to see my favourite band in the world live in my home town on Montreal, Canada and I have to say it was freaking awesome. Apart from them being my favourite band they're actually much better live then they are in studio which surprised me because to sing "Power Metal" which Sabaton falls under and to perform any part of the genre is extremely hard with the high/extended vocals and screaming guitars and whatnot. But Sabaton THE best band I have ever seen live. For one when you go to a Sabaton show the sound of their performance is just astonishing. It's silent for one and they keep you on edge and then their bassist and keyboardist walk out and begin to play and bit and then the drummer and then the guitarists and then finally, Joakim Broden, their singer. Joakim Broden is one of the most talented singers I've ever seen and has this distinct voice that I haven't heard anyone use, not Ozzy, not Eric Adams from ManOwaR, not Udo Dirkschneider, no one. They always begin face paced, for instance with Ghost Division, one of my favourite songs. I say this a lot but Sabaton is just freaking awesome. One of the things that hits you before anything is the atmosphere of the crowd and the stage that they have at the moment. You can feel the anticipation as so many anxious Sabaton bands wait for the moment when they come out. You know when you go to concerts and they play songs while you wait? Well right before they come out they blast "The Final Countdown" and funny enough people sing along to it, metalheads singing along to The Final Countdown while waiting for Sabaton, scarcely anything better than that. Then smoke, lots and lots of white smoke come from the sides and the lights shine brightly so you can't see anything but light and the first note sounds people begin to headbang and raise their fists and horns into the air for the band and from the first word uttered people are singing, everybody. One of the best things about Sabaton is the way they performed and this is totally aside from how they sound. Sabaton doesn't just play music they put on a show. They make you cheer, they make you yell, they make you singand they make you laugh, they make you laugh a lot. The singer is always doings things on stage that make you laugh out loud (notice how I didn't use lol, why? BECAUSE YOU DO NOT SAY LOL IN REAL LIFE YOU WHY WOULD I USE IT HERE?) Like during one of the solos he began to twist the nipples of his lead guitarist. In between songs he throws out a little bit of this and that. He talked about the hockey games between Montreal and Boston and talked about how south europeans aren't good at hockey. I liked one particular part where he referenced WW2 as "60 or 70 years ago some crazy shit happened in Europe...you know the guy with the moustache?". Sabaton is entertaining both musically and humourously live. All in all, a great show. The songs were the best ones they had and played better than the recordings and the band was enjoyable to watch. I may to more of these "Live Band" reviews mainly because I happen to go to a lot of concerts. On a closing note of Sabaton ever plays a show near you I suggest you go see them...actually, I COMMAND YOU!!! |
